Quantum Summit 2022

On the 11th and 12th of May 2022, almost 1,000 participants and 50 speakers came together virtually at the Bitkom Quantum Summit to shape the future of quantum computing on two stages and in 45 sessions. The digital Quantum Summit 2022 gave a holistic overview of the status quo of quantum computing in Germany & Europe and showed how today's decisions - politically, economically, and technologically - are shaping the future of quantum computing in the European industry.  

 
Day 1

The opening day focused on all interactions between science and industry. A highlight was the opening speech by Dr. Franziska Brantner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection. Dr. Bratner emphasised how important a good agreement between science and industry is: "We need extensive research as well as basic research - at the same time we want to support start-ups, but also well-known companies working in this sector and already making a contribution." 
 
Future visions for quantum computing in Germany were discussed with experts from politics and business. The question of how success can be defined was particularly exciting. Gustav Kalbe, Head of Unit, DG CONNECT, High Performance Computing and Quantum Technology (CNECT.C.2), gave an interesting insight into the topic on a European level. 
 

Day 2

On the second day, the main stage was all about cross-industry applications of quantum technologies, while the second stage looked at the technological side of the industry. Exciting panels & presentations focused on particular use cases, quantum workforce and educational resources. But social issues were not neglected either. Dr Pieter Vermaas, Assistant Professor Delft University of Technology says: "We need to get society on board to continue to develop and use quantum technologies in a sustainable way."
